Victoria, South Australia and WA open 2026-27 state nomination
Victoria and South Australia reopened, Western Australia issued its first invitations for the year, and Tasmania ran another weekly round.
State nomination for the subclass 190 and 491 visas moved in the last fortnight. Victoria and South Australia reopened, Western Australia issued its first invitations for the year, and Tasmania ran another weekly round. The ACT and the Northern Territory have not changed.
Victoria
On 26 October 2026 Victoria opened Registrations of Interest for the subclass 190, with 900 nomination places for 2026-27. Its subclass 491 places have not been set, and 491 registrations are not being accepted yet. Registrations from last year do not carry over, so you need to submit a new one. Victoria now charges $60 (plus GST if you are in Australia) to register and $180 for a nomination application if you are invited.
South Australia
On 22 October 2026 South Australia reopened Registrations of Interest for people living and working in South Australia whose current visa expires by 31 January 2027. Applicants overseas do not register; South Australia invites them from their SkillSelect Expression of Interest. Invitations will focus on building and construction, defence, education, engineering, health and manufacturing, although high-ranking candidates in other sectors may be considered. Everyone needs a current Expression of Interest.
Western Australia
Western Australia issued its first 2026-27 invitations on 14 October 2026: 1,227 in total, 836 for the subclass 190 and 391 for the subclass 491, across its general and graduate streams. WA invites directly from SkillSelect, so there is nothing to register with the state.
Tasmania
Tasmania’s round on 23 October 2026 invited 38 subclass 190 and 32 subclass 491 registrations. The lowest scores invited were 317 and 76. Tasmania has 902 subclass 190 and 670 subclass 491 places left this year.
ACT and Northern Territory
The ACT’s last round was on 12 October 2026 (261 subclass 190 invitations, none for the 491); its next is planned for the week of 25 January 2027. The Northern Territory is not taking new 190 applications or offshore applications, and takes 491 applications only from onshore NT graduates and residents facing a visa, age or points deadline on or before 30 September 2027.
What to do now
Check that your Expression of Interest is current and lists the right states. If you are in Victoria, submit a new Registration of Interest for the 190. If you are in South Australia and your visa ends by 31 January 2027, register now. Each state’s rules change during the year, so confirm the details on the state’s own page before you apply.
